Redefining the Nursery - Modern Baby Bedding and Themed-Nurseries Collide

!±8± Redefining the Nursery - Modern Baby Bedding and Themed-Nurseries Collide

When someone mentions a themed nursery, thoughts of Winnie the Pooh, Mickey Mouse and Thomas the Train run rampant through my mind. Though I don't have a grudge against such characters - they are, in fact, some of the loves of my three children's lives - it's just that I don't want to decorate a nursery around them. Though eventually we may all have to purchase a Dora nightlight or a Lightning McQueen lamp, in that very small amount of time -- before our babies become toddlers and develop their own opinions -- we are free to decorate in our own style.

Many parents today feel torn between the concept of modern nursery bedding and traditional themed bedding. The good news is that parents looking to create a contemporary nursery can have the theme AND the modern, clean lines. Modern themed nursery bedding is a far cry from Disney Princesses. Here are some great modern themes available for parents today:

1. Owls: For parents waiting to be surprised on delivery day, owl nurseries are an ideal gender-neutral. Another perk of the owl-themed nursery is that, because there are so many different options available, there are dozens of different looks to choose from. Designers offer everything from retro-owl to applique-owl to cartoonish-owl bedding sets, thus assuring that there is owl-themed nursery bedding set that will suit their own style. For parents who wish to continue the theme throughout the nursery, there are also a variety of accessories that would complement owl bedding. Tree wall decals, owl wall posters and owl rugs are great additions to help create a cohesive theme room.

2. Lions, Tigers and Bears: Designers today offer a multitude of animal baby bedding sets. Paired with stripes, polka dots and paisleys, the safari nursery has been given an update. Designers have utilized design conscious style and bold colors -- bright oranges, sunny yellows and refreshing aquas -- to create a modern look with a classic, age-old theme. Because a theme room usually entails more than just crib bedding, designers also offer canopies, wall decals and plush animals which, in simplistic moderation, will help to create an elegantly modern animal-themed nursery.

3. Butterflies: If you are expecting a baby girl, a butterfly themed nursery continues to be a great option. Though there is a variety of pink butterfly bedding sets available, many designers have used turned to other colors -- lavenders, chocolate browns and even grays -- to give the butterfly-themed baby bedding a modern update while still maintaining a sweet baby look. Add other butterflies through the room -- butterfly ceiling mobiles, wall decals and butterfly art are a few ideals -- and you'll have a unique designer nursery in contemporary style.

In the end, parents have many options when looking to decorate with a theme and modern style. By combining themed ideas with polka dots, stripes and bold colors, traditional nurseries are given contemporary updates.
